UPDATE!

This blog is in need of an update! Sorry it’s been such a long time; not that this is an excuse but I have been super busy with school lately. We went through an unrelenting several weeks of exams. The crazy thing is that getting through that gauntlet popped me right out at the end of the semester. I’ve only got two weeks left of class and a week of finals, and then I will be DONE WITH MY FIRST YEAR! 14 dogtor to be exact.

I’ve added some pictures over that were taken over the last few weeks. There is so much to share but a surprisingly small amount of time to do so at the end of the day.

It’s reindeer calving season! I’ve been spending time at LARS, the Large Animal Research Station, here at UAF. As vet students, we have the opportunity to participate in calf checks and calf processing. I also spent some time with the adolescent muskoxen and getting them used to being handled. It’s been a super fun and unique experience!

We have also been helping with the calving process at Archipelago Farms. There are babies everywhere!

And in between calving, I’ve been spending most of the rest of my time keeping with with school. Sometimes this can be a challenge when your cat thinks the best spot in your house is the one right on top of your computer.

Plus, check out the “vet student nightstand” picture

I’ve also had the opportunity to participate in the One Health conference here at UAF. It was such an awesome experience. I was able to meet so many people with different backgrounds in human and environmental health. I love being part of this community and will definitely be participating in the future! picture

At one point, I brought Maya to school to be our guinea pig for student neuro exams. Prior to class, she got to sleep in the car. She is so spoiled. picture

I’ve been taking dressage lessons in Fairbanks. I’ve learned so much about my “sticky spots” when I ride. It’s been a nice distraction from being away from Minnie for the time being, but I still can’t wait to come back to Colorado to ride her!

My lesson on Newton: picture I miss the view between these sorrel ears! picture

Last weekend was Easter. Jake happened to be out of town for work, so I went to another student’s house with the rest of my classmates for some holiday fun. I learned how to make Ukrainian eggs! I definitely need a lot of practice but I’m still pleased with how it turned out. picture

And last but not least, a bunch of us went on a walk through Creamer’s Field. It’s a magical little boardwalk through the aspen trees over the water. Such a gem right in the middle of Fairbanks! picture picture

Until next time!
